WISDOM IS PRIMARY
Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the
words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting,
get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
She will place on your head an ornament of grace;
A crown of glory she will deliver to you. ( Proverbs 4:5-9)
Wisdom is the eternal possession of God. Solomon was the wisest man of his day and perhaps of all history. He regarded wisdom as the greatest need of mankind. Although it is given by God, it must be diligently sought as life's most valuable treasure. Its excellent characteristics are illustrated even by God's tiny creatures. Rulers, nobles, and judges are among its prominent clients. It pays great dividends such as life, longevity, security, and wealth to those who find it. Its profitable companions are prudence, knowledge, and discretion. Only a fool would reject life's principal prize - wisdom.
