The labor of the righteous leads to life,
The wages of the wicked to sin. ( Proverbs 10:16)
Solomon was a hard worker and observed the folly of laziness. He discovered that the wisdom of hard work is the secret of success in every area of life, from family to government. On the other hand, slothfulness is the folly that leads to failure. Hard work is profitable for sustenance, wealth, and life itself; it develops leadership and good reputation; it must take priority over comfort and leisure. Hunger is often a good incentive for hard work, but vain overwork is unwise because it wastes valuable energy on fleeting fancies.
Slothfulness destroys trust and is a sign of ignorance; it invents excuses for failure and wastes worthy resources. Slothfulness leads its clients into trouble, such as poverty, forced labor, self-neglect, and ultimately to self-destruction. The hard working wise man is far from it.
